In Oxford, Mississippi there has been a severe five year drought. This is not the kind of drought created by weather anomalies, this is the kind of drought created by a bad football team. Last year the Ole Miss Rebels had a losing season going 3 and 9 with no conference wins!

Today, in Oxford the rains finally came. With a 59-0 victory over the Warhawks of Louisiana-Monroe the Rebels became bowl eligible. This is the first time since the 2003 season that the Ole Miss Rebels have done this.

Much of the credit has been given to new headcoach Houston Nutt . Nutt arrived on the Ole Miss scene just this season, but he is not new to college football, nor the South Eastern Conference (SEC). He brought a record that include eight bowl births and three SEC Western Division titles during his ten year tenure with the Arkansas Razorbacks.

There is enough love to go around however with the emergence of sophomore QB, Jevan Snead as a capable leader of the Rebels. It of course helps that Snead has three excellent teammates to pass the ball to in Shay Hodge , Mike Wallace , and Dexter McCluster . Add to this the prowess of RB Cordera Eason and it is easy to see the Ole Miss Rebels as a program on the rise.
