fulmer2_si.jpgWhile it has been rumored around Knoxville that many prominent boosters would like to see former University of Tennessee Vols head coach Phillip Fulmer stay connected to the university in some capacity. Today it was announced that a deal was reached between Fulmer and the university that would accomplish this. Fulmer was formally offered and accepted a “special assistant to the president” [of the university] position. This position will not be related solely to any one department. What this means is that the popularity of the former head coach can be utilized where it will be most beneficial for the university as a whole. This is a three month deal worth $12,500 per month and is being privately funded. While this will certainly not be a permanent position, it will be mutually beneficial. It will allow the Fulmer to chart his future in whatever capacity best suits his career ambitions. It will also all the university to benefit from the large and loyal following he has developed. This appointment will end on February 28, 2009.
